Ciudad del Este is the capital of the Alto Paraná department, in Paraguay, located on the right bank of the Parana River.

Ciudad del Este is located across the cities of Puerto Iguazu (Argentina) and Foz do Iguazu (Brazil), and it is connected with the latter by the International Friendship Bridge.

Ciudad del Este is the second largest city of Paraguay, with approximately 375,000 inhabitants.

Ciudad del Este is the world's third largest Tax Free Area (after Miami and Hong Kong). Many tourists come to town only for shopping. There are several bus lines linking Ciudad del Este with Puerto Iguazu and Foz de Iguazu.
